Nature Without Borders Ecological Forum - space data to improve nature management efficiency

Vladivostok, EROS A, 05.09.2006 Third International Ecological Forum “Nature Without Borders” is to take place in Vladivostok on November 12-13. The organizer – Primorsky Region Administration - sets forth the activation of domestic and foreign resources for nature protection, creation of favorable ecological environment for the population, maximum possible interaction between governmental authorities, scientific and business communities and public organizations for the issues of environmental protection and nature conservation as the primary issues of the Forum.


Representatives of the Russian Presidential Administration, plenipotentiary representative of the RF President in the Far East Federal District, Far Eastern Department of the Russian Academy of Sciences, organizations introducing cutting-edge technology of complex natural resources management and environmental protection, potential investors into ecological programs, Russian and international societies, interested in nature protection and conservation and many others will take part in this Forum.

Among the participants of the Forum – ScanEx Research and Development Center and NGO Transparent World non-commercial partnership. Transparent World specialists will talk about the use of space images for forest monitoring in the Far East. In particular, management violations assessment methods with respect to the forests of high nature-conservation value will be highlighted.

ScanEx Center will present material on operational satellite-based monitoring for emergencies and ecological disasters mitigation and prevention in the Russian port areas based on the examples of oil pollutions detection projects within water areas of the Okhotsk and Black Seas. Results of the completed ScanEx’s projects on oil spills space monitoring indicate that modern space technology have been created and successfully implemented in Russia. ScanEx Center can offer services to the customers with near real-time delivery of RS data products on oil pollutions and navigation status in the Russian coastal water areas of the Arctic, Far East, Caspian and Black Seas.
