The image of the Lake Elton was received on November 22, 2016 from SPOT 7 satellite. The Lake is located in the south-eastern part of the Pallasovsky district of the Volgograd, 17 km from the Russian-Kazakh border.

Elton is the salt-drainage lake, the largest mineral lake in Europe. The lake is filled with brine. There are outputs of salt sources at the bottom. The water contains algae, which give the lake a reddish tint. There are deposits of mineral salts and hydrogen sulphide mud at the bottom of Elton.
