The image of the Buinaksk District was received on March 25, 2017 from SPOT 7 satellite. The Sulak River, Chirkey Reservoir and the settlement of Chirkey can be seen on the image.

Chirkey Water Reservoir is the largest reservoir of the North Caucasus. It was formed on the Sulak River as a result of the construction of a Chirkey hydroelectric power station. The reservoir is widely used for fishing and water supply.

The settlement of Chirkey, which can be seen on the right side of the image, was founded in 1967 as a result of the resettlement of the inhabitants of the ancient village of Chirkey, which was in the flood zone of the Chirkey reservoir. Currently, more than 9,400 people live here.

The Chirkey Dam is the highest arch dam in Russia. It is 232.5 m (763 ft) tall and 338 m (1,109 ft) long.
