Urals Federal University can now handle satellite data in real-time

March 11, 2011 - Russia: The center of Space Monitoring will start to operate at the Urals Federal University. Opening ceremony of the Center and putting into operation of the Earth remote sensing data reception station is to be held on March 15 at 13:00 at the Institute of Radioelectronics and Information Technologies. (Yekaterinburg, 32 Mira street). National technology of satellite data reception and processing – UniScan, produced by ScanEx RDC, - is the backbone of this Center of Space Monitoring.


The following people will partake in the opening of the Space Monitoring Center of the Urals Federal University:

•V. Koksharov, Rector of the Urals Federal University;
•V, Gershenzon, General Director of ScanEx RDC;
•S. Knyazev, Director of the Institute of Information and Telecommunications Systems and Technologies, etc.

Specialists from several regional ministries, Main Department, Regional Center and the Center of Monitoring Emergencies, NPO Avtomatica, Urals Department of RAS, agricultural ministries of Kurgan and Chelyabinsk Regions will also take part in the opening ceremony.

The Space Monitoring Center of the Urals Federal University will ensure operations in mode of direct reception of data acquired from Terra, Aqua (MODIS), SPOT 4 and RADARSAT-1 satellites. Later on UniScan receiving station can be upgraded to receive data from other remote sensing satellites as well. Satellite imagery data can be used to resolve both scientific-educational and administrative tasks, including monitoring and control of the region territories.

The opening of the Space Monitoring Center will be preceded by working meetings that are to be conducted on March 14 between ScanEx specialists and colleagues from the Institute of Information and Telecommunications Systems and Technologies. On the same day Deputy General Director of ScanEx RDC Alexei Kucheiko will deliver lecture for the senior students of the Radio Technology Department.
