The image of the Tyumen Region was received from SPOT 7 satellite on April 29, 2016. The Tura River and Tyumen — the first Russian settlement in Siberia — can be seen on the image.

The area of the city is 235 sq. km, population is about 720 000 people (2016).
Tyumen was founded in 1586 to support Russia’s eastward expansion. The first Siberian railway station and telegraph, as well as the first Orthodox churches in Siberia were built here.

After the end of Leningrad siege 238 cats were sent from Tyumen in order to protect the State Hermitage Museum and other palaces and museums against rodents. The Square of Siberian cats appeared in Tyumen in memory of this event.
