05 May 2017
On the image: Krasnoperekopsky District, Razdolnensky District, Republic of Crimea, Russia

The image of the Krasnoperekopsky and Razdolnensky Districts of the Republic of Crimea was received on January 31, 2017 from SPOT 7 satellite.

The city of Krasnoperekopsk as well as the lakes Staroe, Krasnoe and Kiyatskoe can be seen in the right part of the image. In the central bottom part of the image there is the territory of the “Swan Islands” nature reserve.

Krasnoperekopsk is located in the southern part of the Perekop Isthmus, on the shore of Lake Staroe. The North-Crimean Canal passes near the city. Krasnoperekopsk is the industrial center of the North Crimea, specializing in the chemical industry.

The Lake Staroe is salty drainage lake of liminal origin. To the east there is bright blue Lake Krasnoe, divided by a dam in two parts. The northern part of the lake is used as an accumulator-evaporator of industrial drains of the Crimean soda plant, while the southern part serves as a recreation area for the residents of Krasnoperekopsk.
