The image of the Belyy Island in the Kara Sea was received from Pleiades-1A satellite on August 16, 2017.

The surface of the Belyy Island is covered with tundra vegetation, there are many thermokarst lakes. The island is separated from the Yamal Peninsula by the Malygin Strait, the width of which is 9 km at the narrowest point. There is no permanent population here. On the island there are several buildings, including a polar meteorological station named after M.V. Popov (since 1933). In 2012, a wooden Orthodox chapel was built — one of the most northern chapels in the world. Several Nenets sanctuaries are located in the southern part of the island.

The Belyy Island is an important part of the ecological system of the Arctic. This is the territory of polar bears, walruses, wild deer and representatives of the genus feathered. Several expeditions, the main task of which was to clean the island from accumulated debris, scrap metal and petroleum products, were organized in recent years.
