The image of the north-western part of the Caspian Sea and the Chechen’ Island was received on December 5, 2016 from SPOT 6 satellite. The island belongs to the Makhachkala urban district of the Republic of Dagestan.

The Chechen’ Island is the largest island of the Chechen’ Archipekago. Its area is about 55 sq. km. The island is separated from the Agrakhan Peninsula by the Chechensky Prohod Strait and three small islands — Bazar, Pichuzhonok and Yaichnyy. The coastline of the island is changeable due to the sea level fluctuations, the Terek river sediments, currents, and dune movement. There are numerous sand bars overgrown with the reeds on the shores.
